Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch: Prima Official Game Guide

Beautiful but terrible
Let me begin by saying Ni No Kuni is a beautiful game. It does have a bit of a childish feel to it, but that doesn't bother me & it is an absolutely wonderful game. This guide is also a beautiful guide, however.... I want to know what happened to BradyGames because their guides were MUCH better than Prima. I know BradyGames is now effectively merged with Prima as they are both now owned by the same company, but Prima's guides still suck as much as they did when I was a kid (mid-90's). I can honestly say about 1/3 of the information in this beautiful guide is inaccurate or completely incorrect. I would say a further 1/4 of it contradicts other information in the guide. Basically, buy this because it's beautiful, buy it to try to get some knowledge or advice about the game, but DO NOT trust 1/2 of what the guide says. Prima should be ashamed. I would never even need to play the game, only to read this guide to realize it's missing information & much of what it says is incorrect or inaccurate because of how much it contradicts itself. Also, there were English mistakes all over in spelling, grammar, punctuation.... They need better proofreaders, editors, & data verifiers. I could've written a better guide than this all on my own.
Fantastic, if slightly flawed, companion
The Ni No Kuni strategy guide makes a fantastic first impression. It's well-constructed, the minimalist cover is great (if prone to finger-prints), and the pages themselves are beautiful. Just like the game, color pops EVERYWHERE throughout the book and it's really just incredible to look at. Digging a little deeper, the wealth of information is simply amazing. Every familiar is covered in full detail. Every side task is covered in full detail with instructions and tips on completion. Every alchemy formula is given. Every ingredient and its locations are listed. All armor and weapons are covered. All the various areas of the game are covered in excellent detail and there is a full walkthrough of the game that will get you all the way through. In addition, there's extra artwork and interviews with the developers in the back. So why is this "flawed"? Well, there are a couple of mistakes, in particular one on a side quest that will have you chasing the wrong kind of familiar. Also, much like the game itself, the maps are a little lacking. The guides to familiars and ingredients will reference locations by name but there's no central world map that shows all the locations in one place. This is exacerbated by the game itself which will reference things by the island name rather than the city on the island and which also does not include any maps that will list more than your current location's name. While a minor quibble, these are not insignificant flaws and thus are mentioned here. Overall, though, this guide is invaluable. I have it next to me as I play and reference it constantly.
Solid Guidebook for Side Quests
This guidebook had everything I needed to get through each side quest and monster hunt. They have it set up very nicely and organized, so it's never very difficult to find what I'm looking for. My only qualms are that it was a chore to find a world map. It's in a very awkward section of the book, and had to be bookmarked for proper reference (even then, the entire map is not exactly labeled, just islands). I was expecting that to be on the first few pages, not somewhere in the middle of the book! I also had a bit of trouble getting the DLC for the familiar. I had to go through a few emails to get it sorted out, but I would hope it would be resolved by now!
A fantastic companion and a great coffee table book
As the gamers of the world grow older, from our elementary and middle school years playing SNES RPGs to today's PS3 and Xbox 360 HD RPG experiences, we look for more sophisticated and acceptable ways to showcase our hobbies. The Ni No Kuni strategy guide serves as an excellent coffee table book, sturdily bound with concept art and gorgeous screenshots throughout the guide. It could easily serve as reading material for interested guests, as such interest becomes more common throughout adults. Such quality alone should motivate purchasers, however, the game is also an excellent companion to the title. The guide includes all of the important walkthrough information, locations for alchemical formulas, and detailed familiar information. For those endeavoring to tackle the title's postgame, the statistics and accompanying images are a huge help. The Ni No Kuni strategy guide is nearly a work of art and absolutely worth picking up if found at a reasonable price.
A guide that actually helps!
I bought this because I was sick and tired of trying to find consistent and accurate information about this game online. I would find a good FAQ on one site and then have to go to another to find out about a quest and then watch a video about where exactly to find a dino character. It got way too annoying. I used this book a significant amount of time to help get 100% completion as well as the platinum trophy. A lot of times I buy a strategy guide I regret it given the wealth of information online. This book is actually useful in comparison to most strategy guides. The biggest pro of buying this book was the information regarding creatures and their transformations. It does an excellent job of breaking down what characters strengths are and what you have to do to get the strongest party possible. The game moves fast and a lot of the information was immediately lost on me. This guide helps explain things that I would have most likely ignored if playing unassisted. Can you find all of the information in this book online? Yes. Will this save you a lot of time switching tabs online and doing searches while trying to keep multiple pages up at the same time? Absolutley. I usually don't reccomend strategy guides but this one I highly reccomend. It's a great companion piece to an amazing game.
A guide that supplements an amazing game all the way through!
Ah Ni No Kuni, I loved every minute!! This is the first guide I've ever felt inclined to praise to the public. I literally completed every task leading up to the final boss. In my opinion it's a more fun way of grinding! This game guide has every task and chest along the way in your journey. It literally was my companion during my epic quest to save the world. The alchemy section is excellent as well!! If you really love digging into an RPG, and this one is one of the best I've played EVER; then you really should get this guide. It's worth every penny and really supplements the gameplay. I'll never get rid of this game or guide, they're icons of this generation of games. I can't recommend Ni No Kuni enough. Enjoy!
Excellent Source of Everything you Need to Know
There are several parts of the book that are extreamly helpful, especially to new players. It has a complete list of all familiars, what powers they receive, when they level up and how to achieve all of their ability slots. It also gives you a spoiler free walkthrough with just enough information to get you out of a tight spot but not enough to spoil the fun of the game. The lists of quests is complete and it gives you enough detail to help you when the directions from the NPC's are vague and confusing. Overall, one of the best games this year and one of the most helpful hintbooks. I would recommend this to anyone who wanted something fun to play. It is a great game for children and adults and with the hundreds of familiars possible, replay is an option so you can try different combinations of characters and familiars. You can also start battles with a different character or have the two not under your direct control do nothing, upping the difficulty of the game to rediculous levels.
Fantastic Quality
As far as guidebooks go, this one is as good as they get. High quality binding, great paper stock and well organized. RPGs can be tricky to navigate in guide books due to the organic nature of sidequests and backtracking and Ni No Kuni has a ridiculous amount of backtracking. This guide did a great job of minimizing spoilers by clearly labeling everything including helpful tips like "you can't reach that now" so you don't waste an hour trying to access something you simply can't at that time. Also, at the end of the guide was a section on interviews with the team leads and concept art. Worth the price.
Great Book
I am 95% happy with this book. The cover is a durable hardcover so it will last longer. All the pages are colorful and detailed. The only problem I have are the minor inaccuracies here and there. Some of the information in the guide is incomplete or wrong. I have only found a couple so far, so it is not anything major. Mostly it's things like, where can I find nostrum (page 330): a chest in perdida, a drop from gobspeed, a task, or from solosseum. Well you can also steal it from an ulk. There is also treats like princess chocolate that it doesn't give the formula, but is something you can make. Overall it is very useful and I'm happy with it.
Love Ni No Kuni and want more? This book gives you more. :)
The production quality of the book could be a bit better -- the cover starts bending the moment you open the shrink wrap and glance through some pages. However, the walkthrough, tips, interviews, art, usefulness, attention to detail and charm make it all worthwhile. I hope they release a full artbook some day, too! Some features I found the most helpful: Each area gets a detailed map complete with creatures, treasures, Pickpocket's Pistol Points, tasks and formulas Each errand and bounty gets its own suggestions Casino strategies Solosseum strategies Each creature's metamorphosis paths, levels when they metamorphose, stats Each creature's drops, steals and habitat Enjoy!
